Out of the office

September 4, 2009 Celebration, Google, Headline, Moi Comments

Pee-Wee-755784It sure has been awhile since I last checked into the office. Basically half a month to be exact. My excuse: stealing a wireless signal in muggy Richmond makes one look more than a little suspicious. Now that I have had working Internet (I like how I think of it like running water) for over a week now, I have had no excuse for abandoning my infant. Or is this thing a toddler now (the website is 5 months old now)? I thought I would upload some pictures of my blog’s analytics.

So here is my built-in blog stats generator:

Picture 1

Man, September 1st was a huge day for me. In fact, it is the biggest day for me ever with 203 hits. No new information in over 15 days and somehow I have the best day of my blog’s life. Crazy.

I’m a big fan of the second opinion so I also utilize Google Analytics to track my blog’s success. Here’s what it says for the same time period.

Picture 312 visits on August 1st. Phishy. Really phishy. Just goes to show folks that WordPress is built on some solid code, but most of the built-in plugins are awful at counting spider bots and “echo” pingbacks.

That’s all I really wanted to say. I’m back and ready to upload some fresh new stuff about my time at VCU and beyond. Get ready.

lacy_kittensPopular web-translating tool, Google Translate, now allows users to convert English into Farsi and vice versa. Farsi is of course known as the language of Persians.

The service is free, “whether it’s a news story, a Web site, a blog, an e-mail, a tweet or a Facebook message,” a Google news release said. “We feel that launching Persian is particularly important now, given ongoing events in Iran.”

The ongoing events in Iran have gotten even more contested as Iran’s Supreme Leader supports the decision of last week’s election wherein Former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad beat out popular candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi. The service could help millions better understand the events going on in a country that has repeatedly suffered biased news services and Internet “blackouts” during the 2009 election.

Google Translate now translates in over 45 languages (46 by my count).
