So spring is officially here. It greeted me this afternoon with a thick coat of pollen the color of mucus (no sniffles here yet). Also, the oak tree in my yard is spreading sap all over the place leading to sticky stepping stones out to the street.

Anyway, this evening I was hosing the worst of the weekend’s “seasons greetings” off of my car when I thought to myself, “Am I washing my car because it is still new (a 2006 Lexus but I acquired it one year ago this April) or will that wear off after some number of years?” What is that point in time when you look out to your old car and think it’s just too much effort to rid it of bird poo? I want to think it is at least five or six years out but I don’t have a clue since I have never owned a newish car for that long a period of time.

Just a random thought that crossed my mind as I was winding up the hose this evening.

So I was standing in the grocery store the other day with my mother. Somehow the topic of Cash for Clunkers got brought up. I was thinking to myself, “I wonder how many folks have taken part in the program thus far.” Looks like I have a number. 240,000. That’s a metric shit ton of cars that have to be completely destroyed.

I hate to link to anything related to Time.com but they have a decent article explaining some of the numbers involved and how this program is likely to have little to no real world benefits. I can’t wait to see more people on their Sunday drives… to the nearest three Walmarts to do price comparisons on Pillsbury crescent rolls.

Nothing ruins a pleasant drive to the grocery store, the beach or the hospital like a political campaign bumper sticker that has long lost any relevance. Maybe it is just me but there really ought to be a statute of limitations on all political bumper stickers regardless of the outcome of that election. Yes, it is wonderful that you probably voted in the last election or the one before that, but it is not doing anything during the nearly four years interim where you are supposed to show some support for the currently presiding president.

I think the only situation that warrants a political bumper sticker is if it endorses either Barry Goldwater or Michael Dukakis. I get to assume you are ignorant and you get a chuckle out of everyone that happens to be stuck behind you as you apply that second coat of eye shadow during the daily commute.
